"My confidence was at a low, I'd applied for many jobs but was unsuccessful at interview and things weren't going well. I was unemployed and was seeking an opportunity; I desperately wanted to work and made many applications.  As I wasn't 18 years of age I couldn't claim benefits and my parents supported me.

I found I had to motivate myself and when I saw this opportunity I was very relieved when I heard I'd got an interview.  I went to the Briefing Session at South Birmingham College and it was very helpful.

I'm a lot happier, I don't have to rely on my parents as much.  I do feel a lot more mature as a result.  I get a lot of support from my supervisor Michael Andrews and also from the team on site.  My parents are really proud of me - they've seen the change in me for the better.

Since starting with Irvine Whitlock I've done a manual handling course.  I do one day a week at South Birmingham College - it's difficult and there's a lot to learn but I'm going to make sure I do my best and ask for support when I need it."
