Q: What happens next?

A: Network Rail expects to award contracts for around 60 individual 'work packages'. The Employment Access Team will work with the successful contractors to define the skills mix required for each package and provide information on where local skills and resources might meet any vacancies. The team will keep your details on file, unless you request otherwise, and contact you should an opportunity for an interview or pre-employment training arise.

Q: Is this the only way to get jobs on the project?

A: Details of job vacancies will also be advertised through Jobcentre Plus.

Q: When might jobs become available?

A: The project is broken down into individual 'work packages' which will see companies on site at varying times until completion, so there is no set timetable for the potential job opportunities and interviews. The Employment Access Team will keep your details on file and open-up the vacancies in partnership with Jobcentre Plus.

Q: How many local jobs are expected to be created?

A: Network Rail anticipates that around 1,000 people in total will work on the Gateway project and is working closely with Birmingham City Council to actively promote access to local employment and training opportunities. Research has shown that once completed the Gateway project could lead to the creation of 10,000 new jobs in Birmingham and the wider region.

In addition, the contracts will be promoted on the finditinbirmingham website at http://www.finditinbirmingham.com which boosts the local economy by helping businesses to develop skills and supporting them in bidding for contracts.

Q: How many local companies will be employed?

A: All companies are able to register their interest in working on the Gateway project.  The vast majority of  work packages will be competitively tendered in accordance with the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2006.

Once contracts have been awarded we will publish the names of the successful contractor for each work package on this website.

When available, apprenticeships will offer a programme of structured training and work experience.
